Google Reader

I have just discovered this little gem. How great that you can have all your favourite reads together in one place.I knew about RSS and I know my email client can do a similar thing, but Google seems to have thought a bit more and gone a little further with it. The ability to share posts/feeds with friends, and add notes, is a really interesting idea.

I have subscribed to a few education-related blogs recommended by yet another edu-blog site Lucacept and been overwhelmed by how much “stuff” there is out there. I could be reading for days and go into mental meltdown trying to digest all the ideas from just a couple blogs…

Reader appears a great tool for following a blog, or for keeping track of comments on my own. In my experimentation I have probably subscribed to too many blogs and now have too many posts to ever hope to keep up with. The trick will be to stick to content that’s relevant to me and where I am at right now. There are posts about lots of things that I think sound interesting and which I may delve into in the future…but I’ve only just started blogging. Let’s keep it simple.

Nevertheless, I can see myself taking 10 minutes or so every day from now on to check in with Google Reader and peruse the new posts that have arrived. It seems to me a good way to follow what some of the “leaders” in field are doing.

I like and use a number of other Google tools, so here’s yet another one.
